Scottish Natural Heritage has published a new map of wild land areas in Scotland. Wild land areas are the most extensive areas of high wildness. A large part of The isle of Rum has been classified as wild land area The new map of Scotland's wild land areas is available on the SNH website at
Spring has sprung on Rum

1st of May and after a very long winter it feels like everything is finally waking up from hibernation. We’ve been hearing cuckoos for the last week or so and seeing the odd bee buzzing and swallow darting around. The spring flowers are out with dog violets, primroses and carpets of celandines sprinkled like confetti. The bluebells are ready to burst into life and the daffodils which have been flowering in waves are still hanging on. Up on the crofts there has been much excitment at the birth of piglets on Croft 3, we’re still waiting for lambs on Croft
