Croft No 6 Doorway
An old lady outside a doorway. This is so like old Mary MacLeod who features in Nos. 2 & 3 of Ian and Myrtle Campbell’s Collection that it has to be her. Her facial features also resemble Ian and Myrtle’s aunts Morag and Mary (Judy Urquart’s book p.142). The doorway is the same as that in the Campbell’s croft house (6 Cleadale) shown in Ian and Myrtle Campbell Collection No 51: note the stairs, doorway and even the nail! Duncan Ferguson describes this as follows: The next house is Duncan Campbell’s. …… The tenant before him was his father, known locally as J.D. He was married to Kate MacIntyre from Uist.…… J.D.’s father was Duncan Campbell a brother of John Campbell the local blacksmith who lived at Leite Faund near the doctor’s house. Duncan married Mary MacLeod and had 2 of a family – J.D. and Annabel. Annabel was unmarried. Catriona White recalls that Annabel Campbell was housekeeper to R.L. Thomson, which explains why the photo is in this album.
