Whether you are visiting the Isle of Eigg for a few days or stretching your stay a little longer, here are some of the experiences that make Eigg so special.
Visit the Isle of Eigg Brewery Tap Room
Almost bang in the centre of the island, you’ll find the Isle of Eigg Brewery tap room - a proper island gem. You can enjoy a visit for a pint, a brewery tour or even a 'Brew your Own Beer' experience. There’s both an inside and outside space, so you can settle in for a tasting or simply enjoy a pint at your own pace.
Taproom Opening Hours (Summer):
Monday: 13:00 – 17:00
Wednesday: 13:00 – 17:00
Saturday: 13:00 – 17:00

Watch the Sun Set at Laig Bay
Laig Bay is the place to be as evening approaches. On a clear night, the Rum Cuillin are silhouetted against the sky and the colours shift minute by minute. Bring a jacket, stay a while, watch the light change and perhaps join in on an impromptu local gathering around the fire.
Get Out on the Water
Eigg is best explored slowly - and often from the sea.
Hire bikes or kayaks from Eigg Adventures
Try paddleboarding or join a snorkel tour with Eigg Guiding
The coastline is full of caves, cliffs and quiet inlets, and you’ll often spot seals along the way.
Walks, Hikes and Big Views
Climb An Sgùrr for one of the best viewpoints in the Hebrides. It’s a distinctive pitchstone ridge and a proper island landmark.
Hike to the lost township of Grulin and visit the old shepherd’s bothy - a quieter walk that gives a sense of the island’s layered history.
Walk out to the Massacre Cave and take time to learn about this brutal moment in Eigg’s past.
Make your way to the Singing Sands, stopping at Rest and Be Thankful for home-baking and refreshments along the way.
Food, Creativity and Community
Enjoy fresh, tasty food with phenomenal views at Galmisdale Bay Cafe Bar.
Visit the Crofting Museum at Cleadale to understand what life in a traditional croft house was really like.
Book a creative escape with Nature Retreats Eigg
Wildlife Watching
Keep your eyes open. You might spot:
Golden eagles
White-tailed eagles
Puffins
Buzzards
Seals
Dolphins
Even a walk between places can turn into a wildlife encounter.
Eigg isn’t about ticking off attractions. It’s about slowing down, getting outside, and being part of a place, even briefly. It’s the kind of place where you can climb a mountain in the morning, paddleboard in turquoise water in the afternoon and watch the sun drop behind the Rum Cuillin in the evening. Stay a while and enjoy getting to know the island like a local.
